At the house of Svansele Vildmark, it is a real immersion in Swedish Lapland that awaits you. Here, we don't just come for an activity, but to experience a complete experience, surrounded by nature and far from mass tourism.
Located at 2.5 hours from Umeå and 50 minutes from Skellefteå, Svansele propose several unique adventures, suitable for those who want to discover northern Sweden in its wildest and most authentic aspect.
Snowmobiling in Sweden: Our first time on frozen slopes
After almost two years in Sweden, we still hadn't tested the snowmobile…and yet, it’s an activity that everyone here practices and recommends!
So we were more than impatient to leave for a two-hour nature hike, both on the same snowmobile. We were accompanied by Erik, our guide, and only one other participant, which made our experience even more intimate.
Ready to take the handlebars!
Once equipped from head to toe (don't worry, everything is provided on site!), Erik explained to us the basics of driving. Good news: no previous experience required on a motorbike or scooter, it's quite easy to get to grips with.
We took our places on our snowmobile, Wilfried at the helm to start, me right behind, ready to enjoy the scenery. The route took us across incredible scenery, between snowy forests and immaculate plateaus, with a few uphill and downhill sections that offered us sublime unobstructed views.
Of course, we have swapped places along the way, so everyone can test drive and enjoy the scenery without distraction.
The route was suitable for beginners, with a few more technical passages, just what was needed to make the experience even more fun and immersive.
Break in a camp in the middle of nature
Halfway through the trip, Erik took us to his camp lost in the wilderness, accessible only by snowmobile in winter and by quad in summer. A place completely cut off from the world, with traditional wooden cabins, campfires and an absolutely magical setting.
On the way back we stopped at a huge frozen lake, where we were able to test the power of snowmobiles. Great back and forth at full speed and a feeling of total freedom.
A moment we won't soon forget!
Swedish wood-fired cooking
After these two hours rich in sensations, time for the reward: a lunch at a restaurant Vildsint, located directly on the site of Svansele.
Erik, this time in his role as chef, prepared a 100% meal for us wood-fired cooking, in front of us. Here, no oven or hotplates: everything is cooked over the flame, in a warm setting, with ingredients that are as local as possible.
On the menu: smoked salmon, game, roast potatoes, and many other Swedish specialties, but not only. A real feast, with quality products and perfectly mastered seasonings.
And if, like us, you don't eat meat, no worries: vegetarian alternatives are available and everything is adaptable according to desires.
The little extra? It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet, so we help ourselves without hesitation and we taste it all in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
A museum about local wildlife
Little unexpected bonus : inside the restaurant, a museum on Swedish fauna exhibits stuffed specimens of emblematic animals: bears, moose, lynx, birds, fish… An original surprise that completes the experience well!
