Visiting Gothenburg’s Gardens

As in the rest of the country, Swedish towns are often full ofnatural areas offering locals and travellers alike an escape from urban stress and a chance to recharge their batteries. During your stay in Gothenburg, we strongly recommend you explore one of the city's numerous parks the city has to offer.

Here are our recommendations:

Trädgårdsföreningen and its palm grove

If you don't have much time and want to stay in the city centre, be sure to visit the Gothenburg palm grove. Nestled beneath a superb greenhouse in glass and wrought ironthis jewel of greenery will transport you to a time an almost tropical worldThe Scandinavian weather was quickly forgotten.

You can also explore other environments such as the camellia house and the Mediterranean house. What's more, there are balconies where you can have something to eat or drink while admiring the greenhouse from above (please note that there is no service on site, so you'll have to bring your own picnic).

Outside, stroll through the magnificent, perfectly manicured gardens and admire the fountains and the rose garden which, in season, adorn the city with brilliant colours and intoxicating scents. There's even a café nestling in this idyllic setting!

Slottskogen Park

For a longer walk, go to Slottskogenone of the bigger ‎and older city parks. Here you'll find a wide range of attractions and activities, including a zoo housing a variety of local species, which is completely free of charge. The only downside is that, while some species seem at home here, others are rather cramped... A little further on, a miniature version of the zoo is dedicated to children, with farm animals.

Apart from this, the park offers green spaces and forests ideal for picnics or outdoor family games.

Botaniska (Gothenburg Botanic Garden)

Finally, fans of botany will be delighted by the dedicated garden (Botaniska)extending over more than a hundred hectares, including a nature reserve

Pass through a variety of worlds, such as the Japanese garden and the rock garden, offering a breathtaking view from its highest point. breathtaking views over the city

With around 6,000 plants, this is a great place to visit in the summer, when the flowers are out in full force! And, as you would expect in Sweden, there's also a café to welcome you to this haven of greenery.
